TURF GRASSES AND BLENDS
CREEPING RED FESCUE
COM. 1
Creeping red fescue is a fine‑textured, cool‑season lawn grass prized for its excellent shade tolerance, low fertilizer needs, and soft, dense turf that spreads slowly by short rhizomes to fill in thin areas. It performs best in cool climates and sandy or low‑fertility soils, has good drought tolerance once established, and is commonly used in low‑maintenance lawns, shaded yards, and fine‑leaf fescue blends, though it grows slowly and prefers less foot traffic than other turfgrasses.
PERENNIAL RYEGRASS (Turf Type)
COM. 1
Turf‑type perennial ryegrass is a cool‑season lawn grass known for its very fast germination (often 5–10 days), dark glossy green color, and excellent wear tolerance, making it a top choice for sports fields, play areas, and high‑traffic lawns. It forms a dense, bunch‑type turf that establishes quickly and has a smooth, fine‑to‑medium leaf texture, but it does not spread by rhizomes, so bare areas must be repaired by reseeding.
KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS
COM. 1
Kentucky bluegrass is a premium cool‑season lawn grass prized for its rich blue‑green color, fine texture, and dense sod, which spreads by underground rhizomes to naturally fill in and repair bare spots. It performs best in full sun and cool climates, offers good tolerance to foot traffic, and is widely used for home lawns, parks, and athletic fields, though it requires regular fertilization and watering to maintain peak quality during summer.
TALL FESCUE (Turf Type)
COM. 1
Turf‑type tall fescue is a cool‑season lawn grass known for its exceptional drought and heat tolerance, driven by a deep root system that allows it to stay green with less watering than most cool‑season grasses. Modern turf‑type varieties provide a dense, dark‑green, fine‑textured lawn with good wear tolerance and moderate shade tolerance, making them especially popular for low‑maintenance home lawns and transition‑zone climates, though bare spots require reseeding because it grows in clumps rather than spreading by rhizomes.
